Little John's House

Little John’s House is an inspiring project for children with special needs in Romania.

Since 1993 Mags and Liviu Zaharia have worked tirelessly on behalf of the children in Romania to see that children with special needs are valued, loved and cared for.

Through Little John’s House, many children's’ lives have been radically changed, and it is a fantastic replicable model for the care of these special children in Romania.

At any one time 6 children with special needs are looked after full time in a loving family environment with local Romanian ladies providing the day to day care. Teams from the UK also go out from time to time to run educational training weeks, to skill share and encourage the Romanian staff team.

For many years LJH has been organising and running a summer school in Romania where 300+ children with special needs can come each year and have a fun filled time which they would otherwise never experience. Many volunteers from overseas volunteer their time and energy to take part in what is often a life changing event for themselves.

The values of LJH in how they care for each child and stand up on their behalf has been modelled and passed on to become one of the core values of Love the One.

Our involvement with Little John's House

Both Mary and Cat, co-founders of Love the One, have spent much time in Romania as volunteers and have learnt over the years many valuable lessons from LJH in caring for disadvantaged children. Mary continues to be on the board of trustees for this charity and travels out yearly to input into the children's medical needs.

There are many opportunities for people to support this work, by giving financially, sharing skills or being part of a volunteer team for the summer school.
